Mike and his wife have lived in many parts of the UK, but Somerset—where their journey began—was always the place they chose to return to in retirement. A resident of the village since the 1980s, Mike has long been a cornerstone of the Farrington Gurney community.
His career began as a young police officer, even lending a hand to Michael Eavis in the early days of Glastonbury Festival, before rising through the ranks to become Chief Constable. Many of his initiatives and ideas continue to shape modern policing today.
Though officially “retired,” Mike remains deeply involved in village life. He currently serves as Chair of the Memorial, Village Club & Playing Fields Committee, is an active Rotary member, and is a long-standing Parish Councillor, having previously chaired the Council. Known for his calm diplomacy and practical problem-solving, Mike is often the person people turn to when challenges arise in the community.
